After your first six hours of lessons you should be able to have good control of a few different sizes of inflatable kites. You will have experience with flying different line lengths (from 5 to 24m). Depending on your kite control skills, you should be able to perform a few basic water starts and ride at least a few meters on your board in both directions. You will also be able to setup/pack down your equipment on your own without any assistance. When arriving at the beach, you will have the ability to assess the location (pros, cons, dangers) and the wind conditions (strength, direction, effects). With KiteBud you will learn practical safety drills and demonstrate your competence in being able to get yourself out of trouble (self-rescue) when anything goes wrong.

I took 6 hours to learn the basics and am very happy with training. There’s a lot of focus on safety and was glad I could practice a bunch of emergency procedures. The videos and web content available with the training save at least 1 hour of training, maybe 2. They are of great value. Training can be done in French or in English

What I loved about learning to kite surf with Christian is that he teaches you from the ‘bottom up’ in a very structured way. Don’t expect to be riding a board in your first couple of hours of lessons like other schools advertise. He teaches you the essentials first with a key emphasis on safety, enabling you to be an independent kiter who can get yourself out of trouble and back home safely, without loosing your board. I highly recommend KiteBud to anyone wanting to try this incredibly rewarding sport.

Christian is a highly attentive and patient instructor who will help establish a solid foundation for you to go out kiting on your own safely and with proper technique. He provides a helmet with the earpiece which makes a world of difference in the quality of instruction (compared with the first lesson I had with a different kite school where the instructor was trying to shout over the wind). If you’re looking for a place where they’ll make sure you learn quickly in a safe environment, that’s the kitesurfing school for you. Thanks to the videos, you don’t sit on the beach on your first lesson learning the theory. The headsets are sooo useful to get the feedback while on your kite instead of trying to understand somebody yelling in the wind. I progressed heaps faster than I thought I would. They’re not trying to rip you off, they’re patient and they make sure you won’t kill yourself or somebody else. You’ll understand what you pay for. The drive to Shark Bay was definitely worth it and I’ll probably get more lessons in Perth. Props Chris and Sylvie, j’vous en dois une!

Hi All , the comments by Travis i absolutely have to agree with , the lessons about safety and recovery cannot be understated.. Yes for sure we all want to get out on the water with the new skills learnt. I’m in my fifties and a bit of an adventure junkie, had a few reservations about being out there with only a kite to bring you back and how to get a can out and recovery sorted but when its all explained, taught and practiced it brings a whole new confidence . Well done Christian and Sylvie for such a professional approach.

I highly recommend Kitebud! I had 3x2hr lessons with Sylvie – she is an awesome instructor!! I progressed heaps and had so much fun. They are very organised with pre lesson training videos and progress summaries so you make the most of lesson time. I did some lessons in the river a couple of years ago but Kitebud lessons were incomparably better.

I received a 3 x 2hr package from my partner for Christmas with Kitebud. I had no real kiteboarding experience except for a bit of time with a trainer kite. Sylvie took me through all the safety and preparation parts in the beginning. Like most learners I just wanted to get on the board but the preparation paid off in a big way. I was on the board by the end of the second lesson……well I stood up and fell off a fair bit which isn’t that unusual. The good news was I was able to body drag back up wind and collect the board and safely return to shore. It turns out all the preparation is very important. Trust me after you stack it’s really reassuring that you can rescue yourself. By the end of the third session I was managing to get up and actually kite for about 50m ( well it felt like that anyway) and safely return to shore and land the kite. I was very happy with the gear and the tuition. Kitebud gets a big thumbs up from me and they have a great reputation in the kite surfing scene. The package of videos, kite gear, experienced instructors and top learning location was awesome. Thanks guys for providing such a positive learning experience. I’m hooked and already seeking out my kite to carry on with this addiction.

The communication and in depth knowledge of kiteboarding and the way in which this is all put across makes learning a breeze.
